five for your music radar

Lend your ears a listen to these five albums that (more or less) recently dropped– you won’t be disappointed.

1| Spoon • They Want My Soul

Austin-based Spoon is back and their new (their eighth, to be exact!) album is a strong comeback. Receiving an 8.6 rating on Pitchfork, it’s smooth, heady guitar rock.

Recommended If You Like: TV On the Radio, The Flaming Lips, Modest Mouse, Divine Fits, The Shins

Tracks: Rent I Pay, Inside Out, Rainy Taxi, Knock Knock Knock, They Want My Soul

2| Odesza • In Return

First coffee, now music! A dreamy, downtempo indie-electronica masterpiece from a dynamic duo from Seattle with swirling melodies that may have just wrapped a definition around the term “shoegaze”.

RIYL: Flume, Panama, Purity Ring, Chet Faker

Tracks: All We Need (feat. Shy Girls), Say My Name (feat. Zyra), Bloom, Sun Models (feat. Madelyn Grant), Sundara

3| Rustie • Green Language

A U.K. fusion of hip-hop and electronic, peppered with blips that seem straight out of a retro video game. This will probably be spinning at your next underground banger. Progressive and eclectic.

RIYL: Cashmere Cat, Tourist, Shlomo, Star Slinger

Tracks: Attak (feat. Danny Brown), Up Down (feat. D Double E), Dream On, Tempest, Lost (feat. Redinho)

4| The New Pornographers • Brill Bruisers

Oh, Canada. Sweet as the maple syrup (and the people, for that matter) are Neko Case’s vocals and the dreamy indie-rock melodies that stream from Brill Bruisers. Actually, speaking of maple syrup, this makes for some great barbecuin’ music (and a twist on a classic recipe that is a must-try).

RIYL: Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Neko Case, Of Montreal, The Morning Benders, Delta Spirit

Tracks: Fantasy Fools, Champions of Red Wine, Backstairs, Marching Orders, Brill Bruisers

5| Vance Joy • Dream Your Life Away

Just so we’ve covered all grounds of the globe, hailing from Australia is “Riptide” indie-folk artist, Vance Joy. It’s pleasant and beautiful, and equally as fitting for an evening drive in the sunset while the weather is still lukewarm as it is for a rainy day inside with a book and a piping hot cup of coffee.

RIYL: Bon Iver, Beirut, The Avett Brothers, Fleet Foxes, Ben Howard, Band of Horses

Tracks: Riptide, Winds of Change, Mess Is Mine, Red Eye, Georgia
